Wraparound Sling, just the beginning.

As the owner of an organic baby store serving eco-minded parents, I pride myself on doing all the research that our customers do not have the time to do. I want parents to be able to walk in the door or enter our online store and know that they do not need to worry about the origin or safety of the products that we have chosen to sell and now make. When I first opened my store, I had a number of parents inquire about organic wraparound slings and in my quest to find a product that was made of organic cotton as well as grown, milled and sown in the US, I was at a loss. It is easy to find organic cotton and products that are from Peru, India, China or Eygpt. However, with my growing desire to only carry organic products that are made in the US, I found the market to be sorely void of this product.

After countless hours on the Nearsea Naturals Website and tables full of swatches, I found the perfect fabric, wonderful to touch and it is grown, milled, and ecologically dyed US organic cotton. After tweaking the common wraparound sling slightly, I had a sling that worked perfectly for a busy store owning mom. I began wearing my sling everywhere, around the house, the shop and walking every night. All the other baby carriers that I had (and I had a lot!) began to collect dust. Everywhere I went I was receiving compliments and not just from moms, but even from older gentlemen and young men in the early twenties. I decided that if this product could attract people that far outside of the sling demographic, it might be worth pursuing as a business.

Bella Madre Organics is a women’s cooperative comprised of wonderfully talented artists here in Montana. All our supplies are grown, milled, mined and dyed in the US. The products are then sewn and strung here in beautiful Montana. Our artists are all paid living wages and are the back bone of our company.

I was raised with my sister by our wonderful parents in Northwest Montana. After receiving my degree in Social Work from Humboldt State University, my husband Sean and I moved home to Montana to start our family. We have two little girls, Maylie and Ellesse. We now reside outside of beautiful Bozeman.
